Wardrobe Wednesday: Tales of the Polka-Dot Scarf

Happy hump day everyone!
We're getting closer to the weekend so just hang it there!

In order to help you make it through the week, I thought I would provide you with a super sweet vid before we start Wardrobe Wednesday. This video comes to us from Glee... which I don't even watch. I chose to show you how I would wear one piece in three different ways! Well really its a combination of a nice chambray shirt and mint polka dot scarf...

Trend Tuesday: We're Not in Kansas Anymore...

Well hello!
Welcome to the first ever Trend Tuesday. As I was trying to figure out which trend I wanted to talk about, I stumbled upon one of the most classic, versatile and lovely pieces I own...

The classic navy gingham button up!

I am in love with this top. It is such a darling piece that can be paired with so many different things!  Its in neutral colors, so you can mix and match this baby with just about anything! This isn't a joke. Now before you get flash backs to Dorthy, let me show you how its done.

I personally love to rock this look with a ribbon tied around my neck! I talked about this look in my mission wardrobe post, but I thought I would illustrate it for you. I love this, because you can pair it with virtually any ribbon.

One of my personal favorite ways to do the gingham is under a sweater, with a chunky necklace. I know its beginning to be too warm for this look, but with a light weight sweater we can keep this going for at least a little longer!

It also looks fabulous when used for layering.

And then of course, tucked into a springy skirt!

Seriously. I hope I have convinced you to go out and buy your self a sweet gingham shirt. Not to mention you can find them for fairly cheap! let me give you some links...

Mish Monday : Why I Chose to Serve a Mission

It only seems logical that my first Mish Monday post be centered around my decision to serve.

The story really starts way back in September. I had just begun my journey as a freshy-man here at the BYU. My sister, Meganne and I had this crazy idea that we should try and do the Disney College Program, where you get to work at DisneyWorld for a summer!  So we both applied and unfortunately only I was accepted. They offered me a job and I was SO excited! Yet, I was feeling somewhat uneasy about the whole thing. I wanted to do it, and I wanted it to work out... yet I could not find peace on the matter. I prayed to my Heavenly Father and I knew that working at DisneyWorld was not something I should do. Finally, I declined the offer and I found peace. I didn't know why I wasn't supposed to go, but I knew I was making the right choice.

It wasn't even a month later when we were all gathered to watch conference in my apartment. President Monson made the announcement that sisters could now go on missions when they were nineteen years old. An announcement that changed my life. I felt overcome with the spirit.

It took several months, a lot of prayer, and meditation before I came to my final decision. Actually one of the biggest influences on my decision came when I went and watched one of my best friends open her mission call. It made it all seem real. Again I was so overcome with the spirit. It was as if Heavenly Father was telling me that I could do this. That a mission was something that could actually happen for me if I put all my trust in him.

I finally decided serving a mission was something I needed to do. Of course I had/ still have fears and doubts. But ever since I made the decision I have felt peace and comfort surrounding it. I have had multiple instances where I know God has been telling me that this is right. I know that I have been prepared to serve the people of New York. I am so excited to be a part of this great work! I love my Heavenly Father and I am so incredibly grateful and blessed.

Also, here is a pic of this Sunday with all my girls from high school, including my friend who's decision to serve helped me make my decision to serve. She left for her mission today actually. I am so grateful for her influence in my decision.

The Monday Blues

happy monday my dears!

I know. Its actually impossible to make it through the day knowing that there isn't a new Bachelor on tonight. It was a real struggle to drag my tired butt to my 9 am class this morning. But hey! It ended up being a fairly nice day!

Holla! So anyway, I realize I am new to this whole blogging thing, so I have decided to set up a blogging schedule, so you can expect what you will see each day on the blog!

So fun fact, I'm going a mission! I leave for the New York, Utica mission on May, 29th. In the mean time, I have been trying to put together the perfect missionary wardrobe. I felt like maybe I should share some of the awesome pieces I have found, as well as the best places to shop for missionary attire.

Since I'm so tall (5'11) I had a bit of a struggle finding skirts that were long enough! All of these were plenty long for my mile long legs! Even the pencil skirts from Old Navy! I definitely recommend those skits! They come in a ton of different colors and are on sale for like $12 right now! So sisters, hit up your local Old Navy's! (Tip, get a size up in the pencil skirt though to avoid being too bootylicious! I mean, this is the mission field after all!)

Just because you are going to be a sister missionary DOES NOT mean you have to wear a nasty pastel button up. In fact, I encourage you to avoid this look at all cost. These are some (not all) of my favorite tops! I love the tank top with cardigan look (warmth and cute layering... not to mention it gets pretty cold in upstate New York!) I would also recommend checking out Old Navy and Gap for sweaters and cardigans! I have so many cute ones from there and you best believe I'm bringing them all!

Also, In my search for adorable blouses I was hit by the controversial issue of the "sheer top". This has been a heated topic among sister missionaries to be. Through intense research I have discovered this, a sheer top with a modbod underneath is acceptable under certain discretion.

1. The modbod must COMPLETELY cover the G's.
2. The modbod probably shouldn't be white, so no one confuses it with G's
3. Don't make ALL of your blouses be sheer, try to narrow it down to just a few!

I have heard that you definitely want a hood on your coats! So keep an eye out for warm coats/ jackets with a good hood! :)

A good black blazer should be every girls best friend. I found mine at Forever 21, but as long as you have one, you should be set! Also, I would like to point out that this blazer for Old Navy looks a thousand times cuter in real life. Just saying.

Alright, now before you get all sassy about shoes, hear me out. First of all, I absolutely refuse to buy those nasty sister missionary shoes. We are all better than that. So my goal, was to find cute, comfy flats. You may be surprised that I found flats at Walmart. Believe me, I was super skeptical. But I ended up finding some really cute ones!
Heres what you need to keep in mind,
1. Can I walk in these? Like, A lot?
2. Would I be embarrassed to be wearing these shoes?
3. Can I fit Dr. Scholl's inserts in these shoes to maximize comfort?

If the answer is yes, then buy those flats!

You may also notice the sweet boots! These are so comfy and hold up really well! I got these more for fall and when there isn't a TON of snow. I still plan on purchasing some that are more snow boots.

Accessories:

Ok, I didn't really have any pics, but heres what I would recommend...

1. Bring scarves! Seriously, I hear they make you feel better about your monotonous wardrobe. Bring some that are good for all seasons! I guess depending on where you are going that may not be an issue... But in a climate like New York I am bringing some that are more light weight and some that are more wintery!

2. Cute necklaces are a must! They can dress up any boring outfit

3. I'm personally obsessed with tying ribbons around your neck with a button up, so it acts as a sort of pseudo-tie/ bow tie. Its actually really cute and helps a more casual button up look more formal!

4. A good bag! I'm still on the look out! I'm in search for one that can be a side bag, but has adjustable straps to make it a backpack! (If you see anything, let me know!)

6. Winter accessories (hats, gloves, etc)



Basically the message of this blog post is this, just because you are going to be a sister missionary, does not mean you have to look frumpy! Keep a look out for fun patterns and colors, yet keep it professional looking! Good luck Ladies!

Spring Trend Alert

I was walking around campus today and I couldn't believe how lovely it is! Seriously guys, the weather is incredible! All this sunlight and warmth makes me excited. There is actually nothing I love more than spring fashion. Sorry, but it's true. So now that I believe that Spring is upon us, let me show you what I am LOVING about Spring fashion!
